Check-in for your cruise at our office located on the pier at Keauhou Bay, birthplace of King Kamehameha III. After checking-in visit the Kuhalalua Sea Spring in our front yard. This was a Royal bathing pool in which Queen Keopuolani bathed just before the birth of King Kamehameha III. Another spot to visit is the King Kamehameha III monument located behind our office, and across the street.

Fair winds is the best snorkeling crew on the island. We have used them the last 3 times we have come to Kona and they never disappoint. The crew was wonderful -very up beat and helpful throughout the day. highly recommend this tour company.

Our snorkel tour of the Kona Coast on the Hula Kai exceeded expectations! Everything was absolutely wonderful. From being served coffee and tea before boarding the boat, to the delicious vegan breakfast and lunch (the bbq jackfruit was especially tasty), to the included soft drinks and homemade lemonade, to the fabulous crew whose attentiveness and knowledge about Hawaii’s natural and human history rounded out the experience, and that’s not even mentioning the wildlife we got to see! The colorful fish, the spiky sea urchins, the bulbous coral, and the giant whales were incredible to see up close. All snorkel equipment is included. To take full advantage does require some swimming skill, but it’s manageable, they offer flotation aids, and you can make it as challenging an experience as you want. I enthusiastically recommend this trip to anyone visiting the Big Island!

Great snorkeling at Captain Cook Monument Cove. The boat and crew are super nice to us tourist. Many thanks the Captain Jon. Our experience was over the top with the presence of Hawaiian Humpback Whales with the unexpected sighting of a new born whale!!!!

The food and crew were excellent. The stop at the Ridges for snorkeling was mediocre—relatively little sea life and what there was mostly quite far down. Kealakekua Bay was excellent. We even managed to spot an octopus, though most people didn't see it, I think.

This was our first trip with Fair Winds on the Hula Kai for the South Kona Coast snorkel trip. We headed first to Rob's Reef after about an hour motoring from Keauhou Bay, spent quite a bit of time snorkeling there, then went over to Captain Cook's monument in Kealakekua Bay. Snorkeling in the reserve right by the monument is very good; although the area was busy, Captain John picked a great spot and then set us free! The breakfast and lunch were both plant-based; my husband and I agreed the sliders, slaw, and taro chips served for lunch was one of the best meals we had in Hawaii! We also really appreciate the Fair Winds/Hula Kai commitment to protecting the environment. The crew was attentive and helpful, the weather magnificent, and seeing spinner dolphins just added to the wonderful day.

SNUBA diving was an awesome experience but Rebecca made it ten times better as she was so easy going it made learning a breeze. The captain and crew also made the whole trip better by making sure we were comfortable and having a good time. At the end of the tour, on our way back we spotted a pod of dolphins and the captain gave us more time to cruise alongside them.

I took my friend from Colorado on this tour. I have experienced both the Fair Winds and Hula Kai many times and knew it would be a highlight of her trip. The crew and staff are professional, knowledgeable and lots of fun. I highly recommend this activity. I have never been disappointed.

My husband and I had a fantastic time! It was absolutely beautiful. The trip was smooth and fun. The crew was awesome! The food served was delicious! That being said my only complaint is that their reef safe sunscreen was very thick and doesn’t seem to be very effective. We’re both pretty fair and over the five hour trip I applied the sunscreen 4 times and still came back hot pink :(

This was our third snorkel trip with Fair Wind and somehow it just keeps getting better. Crew were amazing and the plant-based breakfast and lunch offerings were absolutely delicious. It’s obvious this family business cares deeply about the ocean environment they shared with us. Top notch.
